The call for applications will open on August 3, 2026.

Please note: Start of the PhD projects in the 2026 call will be in the beginning of 2027 at the earliest. The final selection of PhD candidates will take place during an onsite interview event in December 2026.

Who can apply?

  • You hold (or expect to hold prior to the start of your PhD) an M.Sc. (or an equivalent degree) in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Life Science, Medicine, Immunology, Computer Science or related fields.

  • You are a motivated researcher with a passion for science.

  • You are able to work well in an international, multi-disciplinary team and also capable of working independently.

  • You possess professional proficiency in both written and spoken English.

How to Apply?

Applications are only possible via the application portal:

  • You need to create an applicant profile to submit your application.

  • You can update your application until the end of the submission deadline by clicking on "View Profile" on the top right corner, and then "Jobs Applied".

  • For the field “expected annual remuneration package", please fill in “not applicable” since all PhD students will receive a fixed salary and benefits.

  • You must select at least one project in the field “Preferred projects”. Please inform yourself about the offered projects in the project list of the respective call.

  • Please make sure you will agree that both BioNTech and TRON can access your data in the application form. If you disagree, your application will not be further evaluated.

  • Please upload all relevant documents directly to the portal.

  1. CV (in English, maximum 2 pages) 

    • Educational background

    • Postgraduate awards and distinctions (if any)

    • Publications (if any)

    • Research experience, including stays abroad (if any)

  2. Letter of Motivation for the ATLAS PhD program (in English)

    • Addressed to the PhD management team.

    • Explaining why you want to join ATLAS, what your research interests are, and what you want to accomplish in the PhD Program.

    • Your preferred project(s) and why you are interested in them. Please check the projects offered in the respective call.

  3. Official degree certificates and transcripts of your master’s degree or equivalent degree (in German or English)

    • Already graduated:

      • official degree certificate

      • transcript of record (showing final grade and all grades)

      • official information on the grading system of the university which shows the maximum grade and the passing grade for graduation (only for degrees from universities outside of Germany)

    • Not yet graduated:

      • transcript of records (showing current grade point average and all grades received so far)

      • official information on the grading system of the university which shows the maximum grade and the passing grade for graduation (only for degrees from universities outside of Germany)

Additional documents

  1. Reference letters

    • Two reference letters from referees with whom you have worked with and who can attest your scientific abilities.

    • Please upload the reference letters directly to our application portal with your application as an additional document.

    • Only if you are not permitted to provide such letters directly, please ask your referees to send them to us at [javascript protected email address], indicating your full name in the subject of the email.
